DOOMDOOMA: The huge protest rally that was organized in Doomdooma town field under the auspices of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and all the ethnic and tribal bodies of Doomdooma with active co-operation of the people on Sunday, was addressed by several speakers belonging to different organizations and they were unequivocal in condemning Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for adopting a policy of allurement to derail the current agitation against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Addressing a ten thousand-strong crowd, All Adivasi Students' Association (AASA), Tinsukia district secretary Suresh Bhumij, while extending their support in demanding the repeal of the controversial CAA, questioned the government's sincerity in announcing the current package of wage enhancement and opening of 100 High Schools in tea gardens towards the fag end of its tenure. On the other hand, AASU central committee vice-president Chittaranjan Basumatary made a scathing attack on the State Government for its subservient role in sacrificing the interest of the Assamese people to Prime Minister Modi and the RSS.

Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) secretary Palash Changmai also discarded the policy of allurement in declaring various packages to different ethnic groups of Assam by the State Government and termed these as attempt of its part to derail the current agitation against CAA. He demanded unconditional release of all the detainees of the current anti-CAA agitation and exhorted the people to be prepared for a long-drawn agitation and to give a fitting reply to the BJP and the RSS in the assembly election in 2021.

The meeting was also addressed by advocate Upamanyu Hazarika, All Moran Students' Union (AMSU) vice-president Debeswar Moran and All Tai-Ahom Students' Union (ATASU) Milan Buragohain, besides others.

The 'Doomdooma Sur-Bahini' presented a number of patriotic songs and poems in between the speeches of the speakers.
