Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya expresses satisfaction at pace of development in Karbi Anglong

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya said that with collective efforts from all stakeholders, dairy sector has the potential to become a strong pillar of the local economy. He underlined the need for seamless coordination between the farming community and the government for the dairy sector to become a vibrant force to strengthen local economy.

Visiting a milk processing plant at Manja in Karbi Anglong while concluding his two-day tour of Karbi Anglong today, the Governor said that the dairy sector holds significant potential for promoting the local economy, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. The milk processing plant at Manja can do wonder in improving cash flow for the households in the areas and can lend economic freedom.

The Governor as a part of his Karbi Anglong tour also visited a Jal Jeevan Mission project site at Longnit. Visiting there he saw the mechanism of grievance redressal, including the maintenance of beneficiary registers. Interacting with the beneficiaries, Shri Acharya also enquired about their access to other government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and PM-Kisan, and reiterated on efficient delivery of the fruits of welfare schemes at the grassroots.

Governor Acharya also visited the Mohongdijua Subsidiary Health Centre, where he interacted with doctors, nurses, and ASHA workers and enquired about the health benefits rendered to the local people particularly women, children and elderly people. Stressing on the importance of inclusive healthcare, he noted that every eligible individual should be provided with an Ayushman Bharat card. He also took stock of key aspects such as the availability of medical staff, essential medicines, and infrastructure challenges.

Acharya interacted with beneficiaries of PMAY, spent time with them where to assess ground impact of the housing scheme. The Governor also visited the Regional Coffee Research Centre at 5th Mile. Talking to the officials, he encouraged them to explore avenues for marketing and value addition, alongside research. He also assured them to revamp the supply chain. He also said that, much like Assam Tea’s global recognition, Karbi Anglong Coffee too must be given its rightful place on the national and international stage through branding and promotional efforts.

Later, the Governor visited the Home for Destitute and Vagrant Children at Birla, operated under the Department of Women and Child Development. During the visit, he interacted with the children, inquiring about their aspirations and future goals. Considering the fact that the children are full of potential, he stressed on giving facilities to enable the children to nurture their talents and flourish in their lives.

The Governor also held discussions with the concerned officials, enquiring about the availability of essential facilities and any gaps that may need attention. He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the officials in managing the hostel.

The Governor also chaired a review meeting with security agencies at the Kajir Ronghangpi Guest House, Taralangso, to assess the law-and-order situation and ongoing security measures in the region. He also expressed his satisfaction over the pace of development of Karbi Anglong who testified the prevailing peace which led to overall progress of the council areas, a press release said.
