GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria during his maiden trip to Majuli district on Wednesday, visited Auniati Xatra, Kamalabari Xatra, Garmur Xatra and Dakhinpat Xatra and paid his obeisance there. He spent some time at the prayer meeting organized by the female devotees on the occasion of Krisha Janmasthami. The Governor enjoyed the devout ambience at the Satras. He also visited the Xatra’s museum, where he enjoyed antiques and assured to provide financial assistance from his end to support the Satras in preserving the state’s heritage.

The Governor later held a review meeting with the District Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and other heads of the departments where he took a comprehensive review of different Central and State governments’ projects being implemented in Majuli. The Governor acknowledged the district’s commendable implementation of PMAY-G. He expressed satisfaction with the successful execution of SBM (Swachh Bharat Mission) and urged officials to expedite progress in SBM Phase II in Majuli.

Taking review of the prevailing education system, the Governor asked the district officials to promote Vidyanjali 2.0 among the masses. He said that there are many individuals with philanthropic bent of mind who can come forward to support education and the students. He, therefore, asked DC and officials from education department to take steps to involve them in Vidyanjali 2.0. He also spoke on the need of enhancing public participation by enabling people to adopt schools and contribute to the infrastructural development of the institutions of education. The Governor, however, expressed satisfaction with the district's lower dropout rates and favorable student-teacher ratios.

Taking review of the Fishery department of the district, the Governor stressed the importance of improving economic development of the district by enhancing fish production. Considering the fact that the district is the only island district, he asked the district functionaries to take adequate steps for revamping the fishery sector which will enable the district to meet its demands along with supplying the demands of the neighbouring districts.

The Governor also took updates on various projects, including AROHAN, TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, JJM (Jal Jeevan Mission), PMMVY (Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana), PMMSY (Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana), among others and took note of the performance of the district. MLA of Majuli, Bhuban Gham, DC Cauvery B. Sharma, SP Bibekananda Das, and other senior officers of the government were present at the meeting, stated a press release.
