A programme on ‘Grand Harvesting of Boro paddy’ was organized under Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) earmarked under Sali paddy (2023-24) by AAU-Zonal Research Station, North Lakhimpur in collaboration with International Rice Research Institute on Thursday at Khato Pathar village under Telahi Development Block.

LAKHIMPUR: A programme on ‘Grand Harvesting of Boro paddy’ was organized under Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) earmarked under Sali paddy (2023-24) by AAU-Zonal Research Station, North Lakhimpur in collaboration with International Rice Research Institute on Thursday at Khato Pathar village under Telahi Development Block.

Dr Prabal Saikia, Chief Scientist, Zonal Research Station, Assam Agricultural University, North Lakhimpur briefed the objectives of the programme and explained the importance of mechanization in paddy from sowing to harvesting till post-harvest operation to increase income per unit area. The programme was graced as chief guest by Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka. In his lecture, the MLA highlighted the present agricultural scenario of the State and spelt out ways to go for double cropping in the state.

Guest of honour of the event, Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner, Lakhimpur, expressed his satisfaction and gratitude for organizing such programme which created mass awareness on new technologies and encouraged farmers to form Farmer Producer Company to harness benefits from the government in large scale.

Debamoni Hazarika, Agricultural Development Officer, Panigaon, Riya Mech, Block Development Officer, Telahi Block, along with members, gaon Pradhan and senior citizens were among them who attended the programme. The grand harvest of Boro paddy was conducted using a reaper at demonstration site of APART beneficiary farmer Suchen Gogoi. Participants showed eagerness in learning about new technology and expectation for the availability of latest technology in their locality.
