LAKHIMPUR: A programme on grand harvesting of sali paddy was organized by Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), North Lakhimpur under the aegis of Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) at Chowkham village on Saturday. Briefing the objectives of the programme, Dr. Prabal Saikia, Chief Scientist, RARS, North Lakhimpur explained the importance of mechanization in paddy to reduce costs of cultivation.
Lakhimpur MLA, Manab Deka graced the occasion as chief guest who threw light on the present agricultural scenario of the State and spell out ways to look forward for uplift of the farming community. Distinguished guest for the event, Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur Sumit Sattawan encouraged farmers to adopt new technologies for sustainable development of the farming community.
Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Lakhimpur Dr PK Pathak, Chaboti Zila Parishad Member Chandra Chetia, Anchalik Zila Parishad Chairman Basanta Das, Chaboti Gaon Panchayat president Nirama Deori Gogoi along with secretary, members, Gaon pradhan also attended the programme. The multicrop combine harvester was inaugurated by MLA Manab Deka. IRRI officials demonstrated the Multi Crop Combine Harvester and briefed its working principle as it takes less time to cover per hectare and minimize cost of harvest and post harvest operations in rice crop.
