Greater Guwahati Gurudwara Committee Formed

Guwahati: Sikh Sangat of greater Guwahati in a meeting held at Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Dispur formed Greater Guwahati Gurudwara Committee with a view to ensuring coordination in different social and religious issues related to the community recently. Capt PP Singh, a senior journalist & social worker was unanimously elected as chairman of the Greater Guwahati Gurudwara Committee and entrusted to form the complete committee after discussion with others at the earliest. Amongst Gurudwaras which have already joined the committee where largest section of the community resides, are Mohakhali, Dispur, and Fatasil areas while representatives from Beltola and Narangi area were also present and they have assured full cooperation and help in taking the principles of Sikhism forward with the help of GGGC. It was decided to draw up a programme for creating awareness about different issues amongst various sections of the society including education and religious matters. After being elected apt PP Singh was felicitated with traditional Siropas by Sikh Sangat of Guwahati.

Capt PP Singh while addressing the gathering asked everyone to give importance to education in the society and take steps to provide education to the children in the weaker sections of our society. He also asked the community members to engage more in community service of humanity as taught by our Gurus, “Manas Kee Jaat Sabhey Ekai Pehchanbo.” PP Singh also called upon everyone to join hands to draw up a yearlong programme to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev as Assam plays an important role in the life of Guru during his visit here and his meeting with Srimanta Shankar Dev, a press release stated.
