DOOMDOOMA: The people affected by the uncontrollable gas emission of OIL's BGR No.5 well at Baghjan in Tinsukia district since May 27, staged sit-in on Saturday for an indefinite period as per their declaration on June 4.

In the meanwhile, a delegation of Baghjan Gaon Milanjyoti Yuba Sangha held discussion in the conference room of the Tinsukia DC's office on Friday with high officials of OIL like Executive Director (HR) Prasanta Barkakati, ED Dilip Das where Chief Secretary, Petroleum Ministry was also present. The delegation was assured by the OIL officials that their rescue teams were trying to control the blowout of gas and all their demands for compensation would be analysed point wise once the gas emission was controlled by the expert team.

The affected people, who would be more than 2,000 in number, are taking shelter in three relief camps with three more such camps on standby in case of any eventualities. They have become impatient seeing that the gas leak had not been controlled even after 11 days of the incident.

However, the only reassuring point amid such apprehensions is that the expert team from Singapore reportedly arrived at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati on Sunday afternoon.
