KOKRAJHAR: The Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) led by Kokrajhar MP Naba Kr. Sarania, on Wednesday demanded exclusion of 960 villages having O Boro majority from BTC/BTR and claimed that they would form the next council government in BTC by winning maximum seats.

Talking to mediapersons at Bodoland Guest House, Kokrajhar on Wednesday, MP Sarania said the clauses of BTR accord would be implemented one after another and the Commission for inclusion and exclusion of villages from BTR had also been formed. But the government had not taken public opinion before implementing the clauses of the accord. He said the Bodoland Autonomous Council (BAC) was formed in 1993 and the second BTC accord was signed in 2003 while for the third time, the BTR accord was signed on January 27, 2020 for the Bodos. He urged the government to ensure that the rights and privileges of O Boro people were protected. He said the O Boro groups demanded exclusion of non-Bodo majority 960 villages from BTC but as of now, only 52 villages had applied for being excluded from the BTR as only contiguous villages could be excluded as per condition of the accord. He, however, said that over 1,800 villages should have been excluded from BTC/BTR on the basis of population ratio of Boro and O Boro.

Sarania alleged that some dubious circles had been collecting money in the name of pursuing the Commission to exclude the villages having O Boro majority villages. He warned that no one should collect money in the name of exclusion of villages.

On the BTC election, Sarania said GSP had fielded candidates in 36 BTC constituencies and claimed that his party would form the next council government. He said out of 12 constituencies in Kokrajhar district, the GSP would win in 10 seats. He said the future of the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front (BPF) was bleak while United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) led by Promod Boro could draw attention to some extent but would eventually go down. Only GSP had bright prospects.

The GSP president said that election to BTC should be held as early as possible and they did not want further extension of Governor's Rule. He said the GSP had no pre-poll electioneering understanding with any party but might keep the option open for post-poll alliance for the interest of the people of the region. The Kokrajhar MP also claimed that there was no proof of detection of Bangladeshi people in the region.
