LAKHIMPUR: Minister for Tea Tribes Welfare and Guardian Minister of Lakhimpur district, Sanjay Kishan reviewed the COVID-19 situation of the district on Saturday.

During the visit to the district, the minister at first inspected the office of the Circle Officer (CO), North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle and held a meeting with the CO and other officials. The meeting was attended by Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka and Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan. In the meeting, the minister instructed the CO to submit separate reports on the unused government lands under his Revenue Circle and present status of NEFA Colony situated near Lilabari Airport of the district. He also directed the COs to take adequate initiatives to provide flood relief to the flood affected people of the district without any delay.

Then the minister visited Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) and inspected the COVID Care Centre of the hospital. He interacted with the COVID-19 patients of the COVID Care Center to take stock of their treatment status. He also reviewed the problems of doctors and health care workers in the LMCH interacting with them.

Then the minister visited the two CCCs, separately set up at Joyhing and Koyolamari Tea Estates and interacted with the COVID-19 patients. There the COVID-19 patients filed complaints to the minister about the discrepancy of providing food items on time. In this connection, the minister strictly directed the CO to take proper initiatives to provide the food items to the COVID-19 patients on time. On the other hand, it has been observed that the members of some families have to suffer a lot with regard to collecting food items or other essential commodities after the earning member or head of the family is detected positive for COVID-19 infection. In such cases, the minister directed the COs concerned to supply adequate amounts of food items to such families to provide relief.

Thereafter, the minister took part in the DISHA meeting organized in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office, wherein district heads of the government departments were present along with the Deputy Commissioner. The meeting commenced with MP Pradan Baruah in the chair in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Ranee Narah, Bihpuriya MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, representatives of Naoboicha, Dhakuakhana and Dhemaji MLAs, chairperson and vice-chairperson of Lakhimpur Zila Parishad, Anchalik Panchayat Members, SDO (Civil) of Dhakuakhana, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Circle Officers and Block Development Officers of the district.

In the meeting, the MLAs reported to the minister about the progress of the schemes implemented by the State and Union governments in the jurisdiction of their constituencies. The Executive Officer of Lakhimpur Zila Parishad highlighted the progress of the schemes being implemented across the district along with the COVID-19 scenario through a power-point presentation. A number of crucial decisions were taken in the meeting in view of ensuring developmental and welfare activities in the district in the upcoming days.
