
Guwahati: A team from Azara Police successfully recovered stolen goods from a scrapyard in Garchuk within just nine hours and arrested four individuals involved in the theft. The stolen items had been taken from Sri Sri Durga Mandir, Sabhaghar, located under the jurisdiction of Azara Police Station.
The arrested suspects include Sudhir Yadav (20), hailing from Chandpur, UP, Bikash Yadav (20) from Bishungrh, Kannauj, UP, Raju Seikh (50) from Matifata, Dhubri, Assam, and Mirjan (45) from Bogchara, Barpeta, Assam.
In a separate operation, the police raided another scrapyard owned by Sakil Ahmed in Amingaon, where more stolen goods were recovered. Sakil Ahmed, a resident of No. 2 Bhelkar village in Kamrup district, was also arrested. The police continue to investigate the matter further.
Previously, Guwahati Police arrested three individuals and a receiver of stolen goods in connection with the theft of air conditioning units and copper pipes from the Basistha Press Club office on AG Road, Krishnapur, on January 19.
The arrested suspects—Safiqul Islam (34), Inamul Ali (19), and Minarz Ali (19)—were found with burglary tools, including wrenches, a plier, and an electric cutter machine, used in the theft.
The stolen items, such as air conditioners, copper wire, and a rickshaw, were recovered from a dump in Patarkuchi. The police also arrested Ashma Khatun (55) for receiving the stolen goods at her residence in Panjabari Bataghuli.
