Guwahati: On Sunday, Assam Minister Ashok Singhal shared that discussions are on for the enhancement of the beauty of the flyovers of Guwahati. Singal said that the parapets and pillars of the flyovers will be painted with colourful graffiti. The existing, as well as new flyovers, will be under this initiative "for enhancing the visual appeal" of the city, the Assam Minister informed.

The idea of taking such an initiative is to discourage the general public from damaging the structures of the city. "We have two-three proposals already in hand for this initiative. We will start work on it very soon," announced Singhal.

"As there are about eight to ten flyovers in the city at the moment, including some under construction ones, a theme can be chosen for each one," he added.

Ashok Singhal is the Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation in the Government of Assam.

The Assam minister revealed that the building of the proposal is still under process, but refused to share any other details.

Presently, the structures in Guwahati are filled with random wall paintings and graffiti, but they are haphazardly placed and lacks coordination. On some of the structures of the city, the artwork has been commissioned by the government. However, various graffiti artists have displayed their art in walls all over the city.

A proposal has also been made to include state highways in this wall painting drive.
