GUWAHATI: A girl named Arani S Hazarika from Assam's Guwahati city has been selected for a course of study in oriental studies at the reputed Oxford University in England.

Arani S Hazarika has been selected by the Balliol College under Oxford University to study the classical language of South Asia, Sanskrit.

The girl is a resident of Ananda Nagar located in the Noonmati area of Guwahati, Assam. She had completed her higher secondary exam from the Holy Child School located in Krishna Nagar of Guwahati.

It may be mentioned that Balliol College is one of the oldest affiliated colleges under the prestigious Oxford University and also one of the constituent colleges of Oxford. The Balliol College was established in 1263.

While speaking to the media, Arani shared her feelings and expressed her happiness on getting selected to study Sanskrit in one of the well-known colleges of Oxford.

She said that it was a dream to study at Oxford University since her early childhood days and throughout the process of bringing her dream into reality she also build an interest in pursuing the Hindu religion.

She added that later under certain circumstances she came to know about the course of oriental and religion studies that the Oxford University of England has.

Arani also shared about how she had succeeded in getting selected for the course in Oxford. She said that after applying for the course she was asked to write an essay on a topic and the topic was 'Should religion be studied at a secular university.'

After submitting the essay Arani was called for different rounds of interviews and later the Balliol college authorities offered an open conditional offer to her to study oriental studies in the Sanskrit language.

Arani, at last, mentioned that her future dream is to become a research scholar and a notable writer.

Arani's father named Partha Pratim Hazarika is a notable veteran journalist and also served as the assistant editor of the Assam Tribune newspaper, an English daily published from Guwahati. Her mother Sudakshina Bhuyan is a famous Feng Shui Vastu astrology consultant.
