Guwahati: High Court Permits Release of 'Raghupati' Today, Lifts Ban On The Assamese Film

GUWAHATI: Due to the dismissal of the former producer's case by the Gauhati High Court, the eagerly anticipated Assamese film "Sri Raghupati" will premiere in theatres on Monday. On Monday (5 June), the high court issued a clear directive ordering the release of the movie "Sri Raghupati."

The court nullified a stay order issued by a lower court in response to a lawsuit brought by former producer Suruj Sarma.

According to the official notification, “This is to certify that the Hon'ble High Court while entertaining the Arbitration Appeal No.5/2023 with Interlocutory Application No. 1576/2023, has passed a categorical order directing release of the motion picture namely "Sri Raghupati" at 11.00 A.M. today (05.06.2023). The certified copy of the court order will be supplied immediately.”

The Kamrup (M) District and Sessions Judge Court issued the stay order due to claims that former producer Suruj Sarma had broken their contract.

After the lower court halted the film's release till June 15, producer Salen Kumar Sharma, whose "Maniratna Entertainment" was scheduled to release the movie today, had to go before the Gauhati High Court about the situation.

The petitioner, Dhritimaan Sarma and his father Suruj Sarma, whose 'Locus Creative Production' had an agreement with the filmmakers for its release rights, complained after the posters revealed that the movie was going to be released under the production company of the respondents, Mayurakshee Sharma and her father Salen Sharma, who run 'Maniratna Entertainment', according to the lower court's order.

It should be mentioned that the release date for the Ravi Sarma-starring film "Sri Raghupati" was slated for June 2. Preety Kongana, Priyam Pallavi, Siddhartha Sarma, Arun Nath, and Arun Hazarika are just a few of the actors who appear in the film.

Raghupati Rai Baruah, an ACS officer renowned for his integrity and dedication, is the central character of the film "Sri Raghupati." He embarks on an impulsive mission to find missing women. He stumbles onto a women trafficking ring while doing the inquiry, which creates more challenging circumstances.
