Guwahati International Airport Handles Nearly 56 Lakh Passengers in 2023

GUWAHATI: The largest airport in Northeast India, the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati has handled a staggering number of nearly 56 lakh passengers in the year 2023. The management of the airport mentioned that this number reflects an increment of about 10 lakh passengers at the airport. 

The management of the Guwahati International Airport has announced that a total of 55,92,148 passengers had travelled through the airport in the year 2023. During the same time, the airport saw a total air traffic movement of 46166. They have announced that the airport handled a total of around 10 lakh passengers and around 5600 more flights compared to the previous year adding that the airport had handled about 46 lakh passengers in 2022 with around 41,000 flights.

The Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati reportedly handled around 29 lakh passengers at arrival and about 27 lakh at departure. In 2022, the figure was about 4.6 million. The airport handled about 23,300 flight arrivals and about 23300 flight departures in Guwahati. They also mentioned that the highest single-day footfall for the year was on 24 December 2023 when the airport handled a total of 19290 passengers.

The authorities also mentioned that the airport had added new connectivities to Jaipur and Bhubaneshwar in the domestic sector and Bangkok in the international sector in the year 2023. 

Speaking about the numbers, Chief Airport Officer Utpal Baruah mentioned, “We are happy that in the calendar year 2023, we have exceeded the previous year's passengers number by 10 lakh reflections about 17% is the growth. This is one of the highest in the country. We are happy that we could handle this volume in a terminal that has less than half the passenger handling capacity. We are waiting eagerly to commission the new terminal this year that has double capacity than our current demand. We are working on developing connectivity to a few more domestic and international destinations in 2024. "
