Guwahati: Mandaviya Addresses Healthcare Transformation at IIT's Amrit Kaal Vimarsh Event

GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Guwahati hosted an enlightening session with Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya, as he delivered the Amrit Kaal Vimarsh Viksit Bharat@2047 lecture on Sunday. The central theme of the discussion revolved around the "Transformation of Healthcare in Amrit Kaal."

Keshab Mahanta, the Assam Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Science and Technology, Information and Technology Department, also graced the event with his presence. The occasion witnessed the participation of heads, faculty, students, and research scholars from multiple educational institutions, as well as the ASHA workforce.

In his welcome address, Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Officiating Director of IIT Guwahati, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, for their invaluable support in organizing the Amrit Kaal Vimarsh event. Prof. Iyer encouraged students to actively engage with Chief Guest Mansukh Mandaviya to gain insights into the trajectory of healthcare development in the nation.

Prof. Iyer also highlighted IIT Guwahati's pride in hosting the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (AAHII), established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology. This school is dedicated to providing biomedical engineers with a holistic understanding of engineering, biological-chemical sciences, humanities, and design principles through hands-on experiences.

During his address, Keshab Mahanta, Assam's Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Science and Technology, Information and Technology Department, expressed his honor at having Mansukh Mandaviya at the Amrit Kaal Vimarsh event. He acknowledged the significant strides made by the Government of Assam in the healthcare sector in recent years. Mahanta emphasized the importance of collaboration between IIT Guwahati and AIIMS Guwahati to train engineering and medical students to work in tandem for the advancement of the healthcare sector in the country.

Union Health Minister Mandaviya, in his speech at IIT Guwahati, underlined the significance of setting visionary goals in various facets of life. He stressed that without clear objectives, achievements are unattainable, and it is the responsibility of educators, leaders, researchers, and innovators to inspire the next generation—the students—to aim high. Mandaviya also emphasized the national goals and vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which include transforming India into a developed nation, fostering self-reliance, drawing inspiration from heritage, building global alliances, and committing to a "Nation First" approach to create a sustainable future.

The event organized by IIT Guwahati united all stakeholders in the medical and healthcare fields, facilitating an active dialogue between the speaker and students. Discussions covered a range of vital topics, including mental health, malnutrition, affordable healthcare systems, and enhancements in the pharmaceutical sector, underscoring a shared commitment to shaping a healthier and more sustainable future for the nation.
