GUWAHATI: A massive forest fire erupted in the Joyguru hills of Amingaon in Guwahati on March 18, engulfing the Bathou temple area and reducing two houses to ashes. The flames rapidly spread to the Bathou temple area, also consuming an old plastic dump and intensifying the destruction.
Police teams and firefighters rushed to the scene, battling relentlessly to contain the blaze at the foothills. However, the fire continues to rage uncontrollably in the upper hill regions, endangering the environment and neighboring communities. Thick smoke has blanketed the area, causing distress among residents.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was deliberately set in the dry forested region. The incident has caused widespread panic among residents, and officials are actively monitoring the situation. Authorities have yet to release an official assessment of the damage caused by the fire.
In another tragic incident, a massive forest fire erupted yesterday in Manderdisa, located in the Dima Hasao district of Assam. The fire rapidly spread across the Sengyungpur village forest, as per reports.
However, four fire engines from Lumding and Hojai Sankardev Nagar arrived at the scene and successfully brought the fire under control. Reports claim that the blaze affected approximately 10 bighas of forest area.
The entire village was reportedly saved because of the prompt response from the Lumding Fire Department. As the investigation is underway, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
