GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police Commissionerate has launched a dedicated WhatsApp helpline to further community policing and give citizens a single platform to lodge grievances and seek help. The initiative was formally launched on Saturday by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, who took charge as the city's new police commissioner on the same day.

According to the report, the newly issued grievance number, 6026900651, will facilitate residents in registering their grievances and interacting with city police on a 24x7 basis by sending WhatsApp messages. Addressing the media, Commissioner Mahanta said that this service is available only through WhatsApp for public grievances, thus reaching out to people easily and effectively.

"This platform enables individuals to raise concerns, report incidents, and request help from the city police at any time," Mahanta explained. He further emphasized that the helpline will be monitored directly from the commissioner’s office.

“I will personally review the messages received. However, if I am busy with other work, the designated officers will attend to the issues immediately and take necessary action," Mahanta added.

He said that this initiative is aimed at bringing active participation from the community in controlling crime and maintaining law and order in the city.

The grievance number on WhatsApp is part of a bigger effort by the city police to strengthen its connection with the public and create a policing system that is responsive.
