GUWAHATI: A significant interception took place on the evening of February 15 when a team from Basistha Police Station stopped a truck at Balughat. The truck, bearing registration number AS 26 C 9523, was found to be illegally transporting a large number of cartons of cigarettes.

The authorities detained two individuals at the scene. The driver and owner of the truck, Idrish Ali, aged 41, is a resident of Bilashipara area Barpeta. Alongside him, Shahkamal Ali, a 29-year-old handyman from the same locality, was also detained.

A thorough search of the vehicle was carried out in the presence of witnesses, and it was discovered that the truck was carrying 20 cartons of Gold Flake cigarettes. Upon questioning, the detained individuals were unable to provide any legal documents or proof regarding the cigarettes they were transporting.

The police have seized the goods, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the source and destination of the illegal consignment.

In a separate operation, a raid was carried out at Bamunimaidam Railway Colony, Kalipur, last night with the help of the Railway Protection Force (RPF). During the operation, approximately 1200 litres of a petroleum product, believed to be kerosene, were seized.
