GUWAHATI: According to a yearly analysis report published by the ride-hailing company Uber India, Hyderabad, Chennai, Guwahati, and Kolkata were among the top five cities with the slowest average speed recorded on the roadways. On the list of cities with the slowest average speed, Guwahati came in at number four.

Sources claim that the National Capital Delhi and NCR will continue to rank first in the list in 2022 with the most trips booked nationwide. Silicon City, Bengaluru, came in second place. Mumbai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad were the next three cities on this list. The aggregator also provided a plethora of additional data, like the 11 billion minutes that Indians spent riding in vehicles last year.

Even while Saturday was often the busiest day of the week, it is noteworthy that Indians also made the most Uber reservations between the hours of 5 and 6 PM, according to the survey. During the year, the aggregator opened offices in a number of additional locations, becoming the first ridesharing company to have a presence in each of the seven Northeast sister states. 123 Indian cities now have Uber operations.

Earlier the Assam Cabinet resolved on December 15, 2022, to permit private car owners to utilise their vehicles as UberPool and other aggregators operating in Guwahati without altering the number plates earlier this month. The state Cabinet of Assam resolved to permit individuals to operate their personal automobiles as taxis, according to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The entrance to the Northeast is in Guwahati. However, the metropolitan city's traffic management is not keeping up with the growing traffic volume.

Every day, the city's highways are used by more than two lakh automobiles. Frequent traffic congestion is still a big pain for tourists to the city, let alone local commuters because the city's traffic management is subpar.

There are about 49 signalised traffic locations in the city. But the majority of them are laying abandoned. Due to the mismatch between lighting length and traffic congestion, the traffic police turned off the lights at some of the signalised traffic junctions. For the past four years, updating the city's signalised traffic points as part of the smart city project has been a hot topic.
