Guwahati Refinery to Host 1st Edition of LAKSHYA- IOCL's Athletics Meet

GUWAHATI: The debut edition of the LAKSHYA - Indian Oil Corporation Limited's Athletics Meet is slated to be held on the 26th and 27th of September 2022 at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai.

Guwahati Refinery has taken the responsibility to host the debut edition of the Athletics Meet which will be declared open by Indian Oil Chairman Mr. Shrikant Madhav Vaidya on Monday. The two-day long meet will witness the participation of teams from across the different divisions of Indian Oil covering Refineries, Marketing, Pipelines, and Research & Development.  

On the first day of the athletics day i.e. the 26th of September, the athletics meet will kick off with a ceremonial torch rally which will be flagged off by the chief guest of the program Mr. Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra, Director (Human Resources), Indian Oil from the iconic Kamakhya Temple. 

A total of 384 athletes in 27 teams from across various divisions of Indian Oil will participate in 17 events like 1500 m, 100m, 200m, 400m & 800m track events, High Jump, Shotput, Triple Jump, Long Jump and Discuss Throw. Athletes will compete in 4 categories viz. Men, Women, Veteran (Men), and Veteran (Female).

The Assam Athletic Association, Guwahati will be providing all the technical and other associated support to Guwahati Refinery for organizing the Indian Oil Athletics Meet 2022 at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai.

The closing ceremony of the meeting will be held on 27th September 2022 and will be presided over by Ms. Sukla Mistry, Director (Refineries), Indian Oil.

Indian Oil over the last three decades has been actively promoting sports through its various schemes like employment of sportspersons, provision of sports scholarships to budding sportspersons, provision of equipment & sports kits to rural school children, and sponsorship of major sporting events not only within the country but internationally as well. 

Indian Oil was also conferred the best PSU Award a few months ago this year in March for the promotion of sports in the country through its various schemes.
