Guwahati's Dimpal Kumapati Murder Case: Accused Abhishek Gupta Sent To Judicial Custody

GUWAHATI: Police produced Abhishek Gupta (alias Asik), an accused in the sensational Dimpal Kumapati murder case, before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) in Guwahati on Sunday. The court sent him to judicial custody.

Abhishek, who was in police remand for two days before being produced before the CJM on Sunday by the Latasil police, was taken for crime scene reconstruction at Kharguli area of Uzan Bazar on Saturday. The entire episode was orchestrated again in the presence of a magistrate. A video was prepared on the same by the police.

After Abhishek's visit to the area, local residents laid siege to deceased Dimpal's house seeking fulfillment of their demand for capital punishment to Abhishek.

It is pertinent to mention that Abhishek had earlier confessed to the police during interrogation that he murdered the girl, who was his cousin sister, after they got engaged into a verbal duel over an issue related to smoking cigarette. The matter got heated following which Abhishek attacked Dimpal with a stone on her head and stabbed her with a knife. After the attack, he fled away from the spot.

He also said that when Dimpal's father had called her up around 10:15pm on her mobile phone, she was alive. Abhishek himself had received the phone call. He removed the SIM card from the mobile handset later and had hidden the same in one of his friend's house at Baruwari in the city.

On Sunday, the Latasil police produced him before the court, which sent him to judicial custody.
