HAFLONG: Demanding immediate release of 18 months' pending salaries, all the employees of Haflong Municipal Board (HMB) went on indefinite strike from Friday.

As many as 99 employees, including safai karmis, have been deprived of their salaries for the last 18 months as many government departments are to pay taxes to HMB to the tune of few crores. The HMB has been maintaining the expenditure like salaries etc. with earnings like taxes from government departments and there is no other source of revenue for HMB.

The employees also staged dharna at the HMB office on Friday. They said that they had no other option but to go on indefinite strike to demand their pending salaries. Unless their pending salaries were paid, they would starve to death, they rued.
