NAZIRA: Farmers in Sivasagar’s Hahchara Chaudang Pathar are struggling due to water scarcity, which has severely impacted agricultural activities. The lack of rainfall for an extended period has caused cracks in the fields. Although there are irrigation systems, including a deep tube well project, they are not functioning effectively. The water outlets are overgrown with vegetation, rendering the irrigation projects useless. Insufficient water supply is affecting crop growth and farmers’ livelihoods.

The situation is particularly dire with the onset of the monsoon season, when farmers typically engage in intense agricultural activities. Instead, the fields lie barren, and farmers have been left wondering when the irrigation department would provide a reliable water supply. The reliance on inefficient irrigation systems and lack of maintenance has led to a situation where farmers have been forced to look up to the sky for rain, hoping for relief from the water scarcity.
