HAILAKANDI: With spike in number of COVID-19 positive cases, the Hailakandi district administration has ramped up the health infrastructure to deal with the situation. The administration has transformed the MG Model Hospital and Algapur Model Hospital, besides designating the SK Roy Civil Hospital as COVID Hospitals. All these hospitals have a combined bed strength of 221.

With more cases being detected in the community and the need for more beds to accommodate them, the administration has converted the Model Girls' Hostel, Adarsha Vidyalaya and DIET facility quarantine centres into COVID-19 Care Centres.

Apart from this, the administration has also converted the Hindustan Paper Corporation's Guest House as well as Hospital into COVID-19 Care Centres. It has a strength of 34 beds. The administration renovated the existing infrastructure of the defunct paper mill at Panchgram in a short span of time. Government and private buildings, including schools and colleges are being identified to accommodate people returning in droves. The administration is also planning to set up a makeshift hospital at Monipur. There are currently 2,171 beds in the facility quarantine centres across the district.

Besides, putting people coming from outside the state in facility quarantine centres and in home quarantine, the administration has also put some infected persons under home isolation with strict supervision to cope up with the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases. 7,697 persons have arrived in the district so far. 1,115 persons are under facility quarantine centres while 4,827 under home quarantine, as per health bulletin released on Monday.
