DOOMDOOMA: A heavy hailstorm that lashed many places of the Tinsukia district on Saturday left a trail of destruction. Two people were reportedly killed in the storm in Doomdooma. The deceased were identified as Dev Kumar Thakur (27) of Line 1 of Bordubi TE and Vijay Manki (58) of Molan Pathar.

Dev Kumar Tagore was killed when a tree fell on the road at Budlabheta tea estate while he was on his way home from Doomdooma on a motorcycle with another colleague. Vijay Manki died when a tree fell on his house.

The storm uprooted the trees that blocked the roads and snapped the power lines in several parts of Doomdooma town. A large tree fell on the Rotary Road in the premises of Doomdooma Bengali HS School and traffic was disrupted on the road but the forest department cut down the tree and opened the road. In the meanwhile, nine towers of the 132 KV D/C power line connecting Tinsukia-Rupai and Ledo-Rupai collapsed, leaving power supply to Rupai and Chapa Khowa GSS completely cut off.
