DIPHU: Parts of the West Karbi Anglong district of Assam faced another severe hailstorm on Friday which caused massive damage to property in the affected localities.

According to local reports, the region came under a sudden storm which was accompanied by rain as well as hail stones. The storm not only caused a sudden dip in the temperatures but also left the region under a white blanket of hail creating a very beautiful environment. Some local people also came out of their houses to enjoy the beautiful weather after the storm.

But the storm also caused heavy damage in some of the localities of the district. Roofs were blown off multiple houses, trees were uprooted and livestock was killed due to the storm.

The district was battered by another hailstorm within the week. Several villages in the Koilamati region suffered heavily under a severe hailstorm that took place on Thursday with damages caused to several houses. Ground reports mentioned that more than 20 villages have been affected by the recent hailstorm. Heavy rains also accompanied the hailstorm, increasing the problems of the local people. The weather disturbance reportedly took place in the morning hours.

Trees including those of betel nuts and bananas, both of which are important cash crops were damaged by the storm. Multiple birds, both domestic and wild, lost their lives in this hailstorm. Infrastructures including the Terenglangso Presbyterian Church and Bethel Presbyterian Church were also affected by the hailstorm on Thursday.

More than 29 families in the Lagtuk Hanse village were also affected by the storm. And the village headmen of all the affected villages were working on the assessment of losses caused by the hailstorm for the team of officials visiting from the Assistant Revenue Officer’s office in Solonijan.
