GUWAHATI : The entire Dibrugarh district is currently covered under the icy blanket. The winter chill doubled up after a hailstorm white washed the greenery of Upper Assam.

Post hailstorm pictures and videos went all viral on social media on the 26th of December, where roads are fully covered in white in several parts of Dibrugarh. Moran was most affected by the severe chills and the sudden hailstorm.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma while sharing a video tweeted that, several houses got destroyed following the hailstorm, especially in Moran and Tingkhang revenue circles.

He further stated that, government will assist and help the residents who had to face damage and loss of property. An assessment has also been initiated by the concerned authorities, to get a detailed reporting of damages.

The cultivated lands, bus stations and roads were filled with hails. On one hand people were enjoying the rare scenic beauty, whereas on the other hand people got stuck in heavy traffic, caused due to the thick layer of ice.

Residents were unprepared for the hail rainfall, however, were captivated and delighted after pictures of the region bursted in social media. IMD has predicted heavy rain in upcoming days in the northeast states. This year, the northern states are experiencing extreme cold, compelling the IMD to issue a caution.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that, Delhi's temperature is going to hit 4 degree celsius in the next two days. The visibility has reduced to 50 meters affecting road, rail, and air traffic, as per the latest reports.

As per sources, 10 trains were delayed on 27th of December as a result of hazy environment. Apart from Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh will also witness dense fog and severe cold. The mercury dipped down below the freezing point in Jammu and Kashmir, as per the reports.
