SIVASAGAR: The North East Development Forum (NEDF), a non-governmental organization of the historic Rudrasagar, Bhatiapar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Handloom & Textiles and Culture, Government of India organized a Handicraft and Handloom Awareness and demonstration programme in the premises of Paragdhar Chaliha Stadium of Sibsagar College, Joysagar from March 16.

On the first day, the awareness programme was inaugurated by Abani Kalita, Assistant Director, Handloom & Textiles Department, Sivasagar. Eminent social worker Monika Saikia, Officer-in-charge of Joysagar Police Station, Manoranjan Rajkhowa, retired professor Ajit Das and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. On the other hand, bank officials Debajit Gogoi, Madhav Das, Gaurishankar Baruah and others inaugurated the exhibition. The second day of the awareness camp started with lighting of lamp by sculptor Durlov Bora. Bora highly appreciated the initiative of NEDF for organizing the awareness programme and said that the women associated with this art form have become self-reliant.

Speaking at the meeting, NEDF Secretary Priyam Hazarika said that 14 programmes given by the Ministry of Textiles under the initiative of Rudrasagar Cluster would be completed by the month of March this year. Hazarika also informed that the work under the Jerenga Meteka Craft Cluster given by the Ministry of Industries in 2022 had started in full swing.

On the occasion, a number of eminent personalities, including retired principal of Sibsagar College, Nabajyoti Sharma, Block Project Manager Prabuddha Gogoi, journalist Najiullah Hazarika expressed their feelings and urged the women to come forward to become self-reliant and contribute in strengthening the economy.
