MANGALDAI: Taking a very serious note of the unprecedented absence of all the teachers, including the Headmaster, during the half-yearly examination conducted under the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA), Assistant Commissioner Monika Borgohain, who is functioning as the officiating Inspector of School of Darrang District Circle, has issued show- cause notice on all the teachers and the Headmaster with a direction to submit the reply within September 30.

On September 27, the half-yearly examination under SEBA for Class IX in the second half for the subject Social Science was conducted in Konakatapara High School near Kharupetia in Dalgaon LAC in Darrang district, as in other schools. But not a single teacher, including the Headmaster, was present in the examination. Finding no alternative, the grade IV employee of the school shouldered the responsibility of distributing the question papers and the answer sheets to the examinees. The erring headmaster, Ashadulla Farooque on that day reportedly had left the school without ensuring the presence of the teachers. Taking the chance of the absence of the Headmaster in the examination, all the 12 Assistant Teachers also left the school leaving the responsibility of the examination to destiny.

On being contacted, Assistant Commissioner- cum- officiating Inspector of Schools of Darrang District Circle, Monika Borgohain described this incident as not only very unfortunate but also a crime to the society and said that the department would initiate strict disciplinary action against the erring teachers. "We are waiting for the reply of the show-cause notices already served to the erring Headmaster and all the 12 Assistant Teachers," said Monika Borgohain while talking to The Sentinel.
