SILCHAR: "Cachar district administration and Silchar Medical College and Hospital are ready to deal with the third wave of COVID or the new variant Omicron." This announcement has been made by the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Keerthi Jalli at an award giving ceremony organised by the Cachar District Administration in collaboration with District Health Department which was held at Bhanga Bhaban here in Silchar on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli said, "After a long struggle for months, the COVID situation has been brought to control in the district and we have to be precarious so that the third wave doesn't splash water on all of the efforts till now."

"After Guwahati, Cachar is the largest and most populous district and hence there are sufficient challenges in achieving 100% vaccination but we will continue to achieve it," she added.

"First dose of vaccination has been administered to sufficient number of people in the district and efforts are on to complete the second vaccination too of all the 18+ population of the district," mentioned DC Jalli.

She further stated that if the second dose of vaccine is not taken, various kinds of restrictions may be imposed and efforts were being made to bring those people who have completed 18 years of age as the target for the first dose but at the moment the district has a target of two and a half lakh people for the second dose.

DC Jalli also lauded the efforts taken by the people's representatives of the district, teachers, doctors, police department, supply department for tackling the last two waves of COVID.

She also appealed to the people to inform the administration or health department if any person from abroad comes to the district to deal with unwanted spreading of omicron variant.

Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, who was the chief guest of the function said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the pandemic situation has been tackled effectively all over the India. He thanked the public and health workers at all levels for their efforts in controlling the situation, specially the principal of Silchar Medical College Dr. Babul Bezbaruah.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP Cachar District President Bimalendu Roy briefed the district administration on the steps taken by the district BJP to increase the interest in vaccination among the people in rural areas, stated a press release.
