Heard of Golden tigers? Visit Kaziranga to find the only one in India

Guwahati: Tigers have been an endangered species in India for years. Efforts have been initiated at various levels to preserve them. But what about golden tigers? We have hardly heard of them, right?

IFS officer Parveen Kaswan on Saturday shared pictures of the golden tiger in Kaziranga photographed by Mayuresh Hendre. These pictures which were taken a while ago, are becoming viral on Twitter now.

In Kaswan's tweet, he wrote, "Few were recorded in the zoo. But rarely captured in wild. And in recent years this one individual. Pics were taken and sent by Mayuresh_Hendre for sharing with all."

The Golden Tiger also called Golden Tabby Tigers is a rare morph of the Royal Bengal tiger. This occurrence happens because of recessive genes in individuals and inbreeding with the fragmented population that is a result of habitat destruction and loss of connectivity.

The post also says that this female golden tiger is the only recorded individual in the wild in the 21st century. Though it could be present in various other forests across the world, its existence has not yet been ascertained.
