JORHAT: Heavy storm and rain, which lasted for over an hour, lashed several parts of Jorhat district in areas like Titabor, Mariani, Jorhat East. Many small tea gardens were severely affected. Big trees were uprooted and electric poles were damaged due to which power supply remained cut off for many hours. APDCL workers faced an uphill task to remove branches and parts of huge matured trees at Hulungureee, Dihingiapara, Disseoi, and Mohimabari were big and small tree branches had fallen on power lines.

“Due to lack of manpower and for the ongoing Soubhagya free electrification project, power cuts and load shedding are going on but the situation is likely to improve within a week or two. APDCL casual workers are trying hard to minimize the load shedding and power cuts during this scorching heat,” said Mukut Das, the assistant general manager (rural), APDCL, Upper Assam.
