JORHAT: With barely 72 hours left to open EVMs at various counting stations in the district of Jorhat, Majuli and Titabor, high alert has been sounded. Section 144 has already been imposed and special rider groups, both traffic and arm riders, are patrolling round-the-clock. The highway as well as AT Road are being patrolled by security personnel.

In Jorhat, three commercial trucks were booked for carrying illegal timber logs and coal coming from Arunachal Pradesh to the Lower Assam side by Jorhat Police. Further investigation is on. The trucks were carrying timber and coal worth several lakhs of rupees, informed Hemen Das, officer in-charge of Jorhat Sadar Police Station on Sunday. Strong room areas within Jorhat district headquarters, Titabor subdivision headquarter and Majuli district headquarter are being strictly monitored by Assam Police, Assam Police Battalion and CRPF personnel, said administrative sources.
