High-level committee on Clause 6 of Assam Accord visits Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: The high-level committee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord headed by Justice (retired) Biplab Kumar Sarma is on a two-day visit to Kokrajhar to hold the consultation process of gathering feedback and suggestions from various stakeholders on the constitutional measures to be taken to protect the Assamese people.

The committee, in its two-day camp at Kokrajhar Circuit House, will meet and hear parties and organizations from five districts of Lower Assam, including from Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Goalpara and South Salmara.

Talking to reporters ahead of the consultation process on Tuesday, AASU adviser-in-chief Samujjal Bhattacharya and a member of the high-level committee said, the committee would hear and take the views of various stakeholders, parties and organizations to ensure the land and other constitutional rights of the indigenous Assamese people in the days to come. He said till now the committee meeting with various parties and organizations had been fruitful and the committee would work with suggestions from all.

The other members of the committee present include advocate-general Assam Ramesh Borpatragohain, advocate-general Arunachal Pradesh Niloy Dutta, former additional chief secretary Subhash Das, former ADGP Pallav Bhattacharya, former professor Srishtidhar Dutta, former Professor, and columnist Dr. Jaikanta Sharma.
