
This story of a dreamer being a national hero and a youth icon in an overnight can give Goosebumps to any dreamer and compel to believe that dreams can also come true. Hima Das, the latest sensational sprinter of the nation, hailing from a remote village in Assam, showed how anybody can dream to reach the pinnacle. A girl, who was so long been unknown to the world, until she ran to fame in the IAAF World U-20 Championship and clinched the Gold medal, is today endorsing the leading sportswear manufacturer Adidas. Today she wears Adidas shoes that have her name imprinted on the right show and “create history” on the left.
Hima Das lived in a small village called Dhing in Nagaon, Assam for which she is also being nicknamed as the ‘Dhing Express’. Well, before running on the artificial tracks of the international platform, Hima, walking barefoot in the muddy fields and dilapidated roads of Dhing was a common sight for the villagers. That girl today is inking a mega-deal with German shoe giant Adidas and will now wear custom-made shoes of the brand.
This is not all, the Asian games Gold and Silver medalist has just started climbing the ladder of success and there is a really long way to go for this 20-year-old girl. The recent good news about the Assam sprinter is that she has been selected to receive the prestigious sports award of the country, the Arjuna Award which will be conferred to her by the President of India on September 25.
Hima expressing her further plans after all the joy and celebrations of success says the media- "The season is over now. Next year, there is South Asian Games, Asian Championship and World Championship, so how to approach the different events and how to prepare I will do it during training."
For Hima two moments on track has remained special so far and stating it she said: "The Finland (World Junior Championship) race remains one of my favourites and also the semifinal at Asian Games when it had started raining."
