KOKRAJHAR: Expressing displeasure over Bodoland People's Front (BPF) candidate Ramdas Basumatary alias Rangja Basumatary suddenly joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just four days ahead of the third phase of election, the Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Friday spit salvo at North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that the development was 'drama'.

The president of the BJSM, JanaklalBasumatary said that there was no provision in the People's Representation Act for an officially declared political party candidate to change his party during the ongoing election process. He said that BPF's official candidate RangjaBasumatary joining the BJP just days ahead of polls was not recognized by law. "There is no provision of a candidate retiring from the election during ongoing election process," he added.

"This is not progress of BJP as claimed by ministerDrHimantaBiswaSarma, but BJP's disgrace. The BJP under HimantaBiswaSarma's leadership conspired to stage manage the BPF official candidate joining the BJP in a public ceremony. This is illegal and a criminal conspiracy of BJP leader HimantaBiswaSarma," he said.

Basumatary said that RamdasBasumatary remained as official candidate of BPF in this election and minister Dr. HimantaBiswaSarma should face legal action for his multiple unlawful activities and violation of Model Code of Conduct. He added that Sarma also violated the MCC when he 'threatened' BPF president HagramaMohilary.
