Himanta slams Congress-AIUDF alliance; asserts Congress of piggybacking Ajmal

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Congress has stooped so low that it had to join hands with a party like AIUDF.

GUWAHATI: Days after the star campaigners from the Bhartiya Janata Party BJP denounced the alliance between Congress and All India United Democratic Front AIUDF, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also lashed out at the alliance party today during an election campaign.

State Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while campaigning at Biswanath Chariali for BJP candidate Promod Borthakur said that the Congress has stooped so low that it had to join hands with a party like AIUDF. While urging the masses to think twice before voting for the alliance he stated, "Congress party has stooped to this level that they now are piggybacking Ajmal to grab power."

Addressing the gathering he said that "The 100-years-old grand party has everything, I have also worked for the party for 22 years and stalwarts like Mahatma Gandhi, Gopinath Bordoloi, Deshbhakt Tarun Ram Phookan and even Jyoti Prasad Agarwala also served the party. However, the party has come to such a juncture that it has to join hands with AIUDF."

He further urged the public to keep Ajmal away from Dispur and vote in favour of the saffron party.

Meanwhile, Sonowal who is campaigning at Thowra constituency for BJP Candidate Kushal Dowari, said that Congress and Badaruddin Ajmal led AIUDF are the two enemies of the state and have conspired to destroy the state. He further urged the masses to vote from the saffron party and defeat the alliance.

Earlier, the star campaigners from BJP including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J P Nadda, and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also slammed the Congress party for its alliance with AIUDF.

Amit Shah while questioning the leadership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal said whether they will be able to stop infiltration in the state.

Drawing a parallel between the alliance in Kerala and West Bengal, Shah asserted that Congress resorts to vote bank politics, which BJP refrains from doing. He added that in the lust of getting power, the grand old party in Kerala has partnered with the Muslim League, in Bengal it's Indian Secular Front and here in Assam its Badruddin Ajmal led AIUDF.
