JAGIROAD: The historic Jonbeel Mela, with its unique barter system, will be celebrated at Jonbeel Pathar from January 20 for three days. Mela celebration committee secretary Jursingh Bordoloi, while addressing the press here, said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend the mela as the chief guest on January 21 and will distribute the Raj bhatta of Rs.1 lakh to all 18 traditional kings of the historic Gova kingdom. The session will also be attended by local MLA and Water Resource Minister Pijush Hazarika, Tiwa Autonomous Council CEM Jiban Chandra Konwar, Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri, among others.

The unique barter will be held on the wee hours of January 21 where hill tribes will exchange their products with plain tribes. The traditional barter will be inaugurated by MLA of Morigaon, Ramakanta Deuri. The Raj darbar of the Gova king Deep Singh Deo Raja will be held on January 22. The community fishing, traditional dress fashion show, indigenous food mela, cock fighting will be held during the mela, said the secretary.
