SILCHAR: Hmar People's Conference (Democratic) which has been lying low often resurfaces from its wilderness to make statements from time to time as it did during the Mizo aggression, first extending support to the affected people and then to the dawn to duskbandh called by ACKHSA. But, it continues to indulge in extortions from people and business interests of the interior and hard to access areas. For their misdemeanour, the faction ridden extremist groups fall in security dragnet on and off being the target of flush out operations of security forces.

In a major breakthrough and operation against insurgent groups in the sub division of Lakhipur in the district of Cachar, three cadres of HPC (D) fell into security dragnet from the civilian area of the village Atukhal on Monday. The operation was launched in coordination with state police. During the search operation one AK 47, one MA 01 assault rifle and 50 rounds of ammunitions were recovered. The extremists and the seized weapons were handed over to Lakhipur police station for further interrogation. Following day, they were produced before the Sub Divisional Judicial Court of Lakhipur which remanded them to police custody for three days.

During interrogation, the extremists' disclosures help the police and security forces to carry on further flush out operations. P P Das IAS, Sub Divisional Police Officer, led the joint operation in Hainkhal near Hmarkhawlien close to Manipur border. The extremists have been identified as EliazerJoute (40), John Hmar (30) and Darrolien Hmar (35). While the first two extremists hail from villages of Cachar, the third one is from Kolasib of Mizoram. They were interrogated by B K Chhetri, Officer-in-Charge, and P Rana Kumar Nath.
