HSLC topper Dhritiraj Bastav Kalita does Darrang district proud

MANGALDAI: Creating a record in the post-Independence period in Darrang district, a rural budding and promising student, Dhritiraj Bastav Kalita of village Baneikuchi of Sipajhar LAC topped the HSLC examination under SEBA.

Dhritiraj, a student of BarampurJatiya Vidyalaya near historic Pothorughat scored a total mark of 595 (99.17%) marks to create history, following the footsteps of Bhagawan Singh of Mangaldai Government High School who bagged gold medal with first division in the matriculation examination under Calcutta University in 1938. Dhritiraj is the eldest son of Naba Kumar Kalita, a physical instructor of Barampur HS School, and TulumoniKalita. His paternal grandfather Bireswar Kalita was a recipient of the State Award for Teacher in 1985.

Dhritiraj secured 98 in Assamese, 99 in English, 100 each in General Mathematics, Social Science and Advanced Mathematics and 98 in General Science. He is not addicted to mobile phones and never took private tuition. He now wants to be a doctor.

Significantly, his neighbour Bhrigu Mohan Kumar of SankardevJatiyaVidyalaya at Uhor Chowk, Mahaliapara came out with flying colours and secured 9th rank with total marks of 585 (97.5 per cent). Son of Assistant Teacher of Bejbhagati High School, Chandra Kumar and Bijoya Barua, Bhrigu secured 98 in Assamese, 82 in English, 90 each in General Mathematics, General Science and Advanced Mathematics and 98 in Social Science. He too did not for for private tuition and aims to become an Administrative Officer in order to serve the society and the people.

Despite the lock down, immediately on receipt of the exam result, hundreds of well-wishers, relatives and dignitaries made a bee line to the residences of both the worthy sons of the district. Darrang Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah, accompanied by wife Swapnali Das, rushed to congratulate both students and offered phulamMugaBihuwan, inspirational books, hand sanitizers, masks.

He also honoured the proud parents and the heads of both the institutions. Both the legislators Guru Jyoti Das and Binanda Kumar Saikia, media persons, office bearers of AASU, writer Hiren Kumar Saharia and book publisher Pranab Kumar Saha also congratulated both of them with valuable books and Bihuwans.
