Huge quantities of adulterated tea garden chemicals seized, 3 held in Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: Huge quantities of adulterated tea garden chemicals were seized from a house situated in Uchamati area of the town in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to reports, under a drive led by Officer-in-charge of Doomdooma Police Station (PS), Inspector Ashim Bora, the police could apprehend the culprits involved in the adulteration of the chemicals used in tea gardens as pesticides and insecticides and in manuring of soils. The original chemicals are mixed with the adulterated chemicals in lesser quantity to earn huge profit by selling these remixed products in the market. The police also seized different containers like gallons, bottles and packets bearing the names of different companies printed on them. The adulterated chemicals are put inside these containers bearing the trade names of different reputed companies and are sold in the market as original items so skillfully that the purchasers cannot just make out that they are adulterated ones!

The police arrested three persons - Manoj Shah, Binod Shah and Bijoy Shah -in this connection and brought them to the police station for interrogation. Besides these three, two other accused are absconding. These chemicals are usually used by the small tea-growers who purchase these from the local markets.
