Human Traffickers and Kidnappers Arrested in Sivasagar

JOYSAGAR: Sivasagar Police arrested some notorious members of a gang of human traffickers and kidnappers on Sunday from Joysagar and other parts of the historic town. Sivasagar Sadar Police, with the help of Joysagar Police, raided some places following secret input and thereby arrested one Moon Ali (41) of Jengonikotia gaon and Bhibhu Bhuyan (35) of Rangghar Chariali area. Besides, the police team was also able to rescue a local businessman identified as Mafij Ali (43) who was allegedly kidnapped by the arrested persons on October 19.

Sources revealed that there was a gang active in the district which was running a human trafficking racket as well as kidnapping selected businessmen and government officials. This gang takes the help of some women to carry out their work and Sivasagar Police have been able to identify some women who are working for the gang.

The police team grilled Anjuma Begum (36) and Jyotshna Begum of Sivasagar Rangghar Chariali area in this connection. The police team also busted two houses under the Joysagar PS area and in the Rangpur gaon panchayat area where allegedly some women, with the help of the members of the gang, used to bring abducted persons. Police also raided three houses in Boniabari gaon, Mornoikinar and in Konwarpur Jugoniar gaon on Sunday where alleged unethical activities and gambling were going on, sources added.
