SARUPATHAR: Situation remained tense as thousands of people from the Assam-Nagaland border gathered at Nagaland Gate in Lahorijan to protest against detention of 20-30 non-Naga people by Nagaland Police in the name of Inner Line Permit (ILP).

Meanwhile, the protesters from the border areas of West Karbi-Anglong district in Assam blocked the AH-1 and prevented Nagaland vehicles from entering the Assam border.

“The people blocked the road and did not allow vehicles to enter Assam as a mark of protest against detention of 20-30 people from Assam in the name of implementation of ILP in Nagaland, later released after collecting penalties. The protesters also stopped the vehicles having Nagaland registration at the Assam-Nagaland border gate,” said sources.

However, the tense situation continued for several hours on Sunday and after the arrival of the Assam Police team, the mob was dispersed. Reportedly, the non-Naga people residing at Dimapur in Nagaland and the other people who visit from Assam for medical purpose on regular basis have alleged that they have been harassed in the name of Inner Line Permit (ILP), which is being implemented in Dimapur.
