Severe Storm Wreaks Havoc In Tinsukia, Uprooting Trees And Damaging cars

GUWAHATI: After the Upper Assam district of Dibrugarh, a powerful storm tore through the Tinsukia area on Monday night, causing damage to a number of dwellings.

A source claims that there was extensive storm damage throughout the district, including uprooted and fallen trees on power lines that caused many hours of power outages.

A tree in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office was also uprooted.

Meanwhile, a sudden storm is said to have stopped an ongoing mobile theatre performance. The event was reported in Tinsukia town's Chaliha Nagar. The district has not yet recorded any casualties.

A severe thunderstorm that hit Assam's Dibrugarh district hours earlier caused extensive property damage.  The thunderstorm severely damaged homes and other properties while upsetting daily life in the area.

Electric posts and numerous large trees were uprooted at various locations throughout the area.

In front of the Assam Medical College and Hospital, an electric pole was uprooted by the storm and fell on a car (AMCH). As a result, the car sustained significant damage.

Furthermore, following the thunderstorm, most locations in the district are currently experiencing power outages.  In its most recent bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of light to moderate rainfall activity through March 27 in numerous locations over Arunachal Pradesh and in a few locations across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Last Thursday, the city of Guwahati was suddenly hit by a heavy downpour that lasted for approximately an hour and a half and caught everyone off guard. In many areas of the city, particularly in Chandmari, Rajghar, Anil Nagar, and Nabin Nagar, the severe rains caused waterlogging. Nevertheless, as the rain stopped, the water receded.

With a forecast for severe to very heavy rain in numerous areas of the region through Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an "orange alert" for the northeast. IMD's "orange warning" is a warning to disaster management organizations to be ready for anything.
