Husband arrested by Sonitpur Police after wife alleges dowry harassment

TEZPUR: Sonitpur Police arrested one Jyoti Prakash Nimodia from Behora area under Bhokakhat PS in Golghat district on Thursday under Section 498(A)/323/307/406/508/34 IPC R/W section 4 of D.P Act 1961 on the complaint of his wife Darshana Agarwala.

Darshana Agarwala in her complaint registered in Tezpur Police Station on October 2, said that she was a victim of torture by her husband Jyoti Prakash Nimodia, father-in-law Bhawani Shankar Nimodia and her mother-in-law Sabita Nimodia since few days after her marriage. She also alleged that she was forced to bring more dowry. She further said that she got married to Jyoti Prakash Nimodia on January 29, 2019 and she was left by her in-laws in her parents' house at Tezpur on December 19, 2019.

While talking to the media, Darshana's mother alleged that Darshana's in-laws would put pressure on her to bring more jewellery and money from her parents. Also, she was subjected to physical and mental harassment. Pawan Kumar Agarwala, Darshana's uncle, alleged that they were being threatened to withdraw the complaint.
