ICSSR-sponsored national  seminar on witch hunting held

GAURISAGAR: Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College organized a two-day long Indian Council of Social Science and Research (ICSSR) sponsored national seminar on ‘Witch Hunting : A curse in Assam’ which successfully concluded on Saturday.

In this connection an inaugural function was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Manjit Gogoi, Principal of the college. Dr. Sanjib Borgohain , Principal of Netaipukhuri Hem Chandra Dev Goswami College inaugurated the function while Dr. Birinchi Kumar Medhi, noted poet, lyricist and former Professor, Department of Anthropology, Gauhati University delivered the keynote address of the seminar.

In his speech, he highlighted the rise in witch hunting incidents among the people of the five Scheduled Tribes of Assam and its solution.. The other dignitaries who attended the inaugural function were Dadu Bora, officer in-charge of Gaurisagar Police Station, and Bhabani Kumar Baruah, former Vice-Principal of the college . The resource persons were Dr. Mridul Bordoloi, Professor of the Department of English, Dibrugarh University, noted educationist and columnist Balin Hazarika, and Dr. Ajoy Kumar Das, Principal of Jorhat Law College. A total of 46 papers were submitted in the two-day long programme.
