DEMOW: After two days of the Kali Puja celebration from Sunday, the immersion of Kali idols was done in Demow River on Tuesday.

A cultural procession was taken out by the Puja committees in Demow on Tuesday. The Kali Puja which was celebrated near Demow State Bank of India (SBI), Demow Branch is the oldest Kali Puja in Demow area and Sukumar Mukherjee performed the Puja. On Monday night, this Kali Puja committee organized different competitions in the pandal premises. The winners were given attractive prizes by the Puja committee.

JORHAT: The two-day festival of light ended on a peaceful note followed by four petty fire incidents within the district of Jorhat. A total of 2 Goddess Kali idols were immersed at the ghat with gaiety, said Sandip Nandi, the president of Jorhat Kali Puja Celebration Committee, on Tuesday.

On Tuesday evening, most of the Goddess Kali idols were carried for immersion in wonderfully decorated trucks, tractors and mini-trucks. The devotees danced to the rhythm of the dhak and dhol and Bollywood songs amidst tight security. At the immersion site, the idols were lifted by cranes to place them at the centre of the River Bhogdoi, added Nandi.

Idol immersion also took place at Mariani Bhogdoighat in Kothalguree, Kakodunga ghat at Titabor and Kakodungaghat at Dergoan, where a total of 26 idols were immersed.

DIBRUGARH: Kali Puja was observed in about 100 locations of the town publicly this time. Out of them, the Shantipara Sarbajanin Kali Puja has managed to garner a lot of attention due to its creative theme of ‘Hell’.

Pujas of Doctor’s Colony, Banishodon School and the one near Bapi Mistana Bhandar also grabbed eyeballs with their attractive pandals and interesting themes. Areas of the town, including Shantipara, K.P. Road, Naliapool, Bagchipara and Railway Colony witnessed footfalls as devotees came out in large numbers seeking blessings of Goddess Kali.

Moreover, while some Puja committees decided to do the visharjan (submergence of the idols in the river) on Tuesday itself, some others, as per sources, will do it on Wednesday.
