BARPETA: Manas National Park or Manas Wildlife Sanctuary is under threat due to cutting of valuable trees by timber smugglers.

The park is the habitat of various birds and animals and reptiles and many valuable trees also enhance the beauty of the park. Valuable trees covered most of the areas of the park. But illegal felling of trees is rampant here. Timber smugglers are running their business without the knowledge of the authority.

The tress are cut and the logs are transported through the river. The forest department has not taken any initiative to stop the illegal felling of trees. The conscious circle of people have slammed the department as well as the Manas National Park authority for failing to take steps to check these illegal activities.
