Illegal liquor sale increases in various villages of Merapani, village headman seizes illegal liquor

MERAPANI: The sale of illegal liquor has increased in various villages under Merapani police station like Jitpur, Sonapur, Ratanpur, Lakhipur and Samukjan.

With the help of the VDP, villagers and the village headman seized some illegal liquor from the house of Gauri Herrenge, Paresh Sonowal (No. 2 Ratanpur) and Booba Phukan (No. 3 Ratanpur), said sources. Equipment to manufacture illegal liquor was also seized from the houses of Paresh Sonowal and Booba Phukan, added sources. All the seized liquor was handed over to the excise department and all three arrested have been sent to jail.
