TEZPUR: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Tezpur chapter, along with the rest of the country, staged a two-day relay hunger strike on February 10 and February 11 at the IMA House, Tezpur premises here as part of the nationwide protest called by Indian Medical Association (IMA) against the Central Council of Indian Medicine's (CCIM) decision allowing postgraduate students of Ayurveda to carry out 58 surgeries, which the association has termed it as 'mixopathy' curriculum and unsafe for the healthcare system as a whole.

"It will be a khichidi medical system by integrating all systems of medicine," Dr Satyajeet Bora, State president of IMA, Assam, said as Allopathy, Homeopathy and Ayush were separate medical streams and the three streams could not go together. "IMA demands immediate withdrawal of the impractical, unscientific and unethical notification" he added.

Around 200 doctors in greater Tezpur participated in a nationwide relay hunger strike. National president of IMA, Dr J A Jayalal, who visited Tezpur to support the doctors who were on a day-long fast, told media persons that the IMA's stand was against the government policy of mixopathy of all systems. Mixopathy in the Indian healthcare could only create more problem, he said. Dr Jayalal also said that the IMA had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the government's move.
